With the decree of the Economic Council of the Republican Government of Slovenia, the company was founded on the 27th of January, 1953 entitled Državno posestvo "Snežnik" (state estate Snežnik) with its location in Kočevska Reka. The company’s main production units are:
- agriculture,
- forestry,
- hunting of animals,
- primary timber processing,
- activities of a public nature.

The company operated and managed a restricted area with limited movement of persons. |
| 1990 |
The restricted area was opened to the public and the company is reorganised as a public enterprise. |
| 1992 |
The scope of investment was expanded into technology for primary timber processing. |
| 1993 |
The company filed for an expansion of its registered activities. |
| 1995 |
The company established a subsidiary company Snežnik Sinpo for the employment and training of disabled persons. |
| 1995 - 1997 |
Individual activities of a public nature are carried over into the management and specialisation of public business enterprises. |
| 1997 |
Ownership reorganisation is completed leading to a change in the ownership structure of the company. The company is renamed Snežnik, d.d., Kočevska Reka. |
| 1998 |
The company divests its agricultural activity which it transfers to the formation of privately-owned farms. |
| 2001 |
A strategic business plan is drawn up for the first time. The plan until the year 2005 foresees a number of changes in the key operations of the company. |
